(Alice in Chains is my all time favorite band, and I’m a huge Layne Staley fan. I saw AiC live in 2014. William’s a good singer, too. Wish I could’ve seen them in ‘93)

I freaking love it. I’m listening to their self titled album right now.

Very first AIC song I heard. I remember it. ATV Offroad Fury on the PS2. I was 3. I forgot about it until I was at a cousin’s house and heard them playing it on Guitar Hero 2 when I was 7. Been a huge fan ever since.

I was big in to Alice and Chains then I realized almost everyone of their songs was about doing needle drugs. Really turned me off to them. I’m into more soft alt. like Pearl Jam.

Well, if it helps, it’s more about the pain they cause then anything. As Staley once said in an interview:
“I didn’t want my fans to think that heroin was cool. But then I’ve had fans come up to me and give me the thumbs up, telling me they’re high. That’s exactly what I didn’t want to happen.”
Hell, look at the lyrics to Hate to Feel, or half the songs on the self titled album. All of them just paint a picture of how awful it is to be a junkie.

My step dad was an addict so it hits a bit close to home.

Fun game. Look at all of the albums released in 1994. Be amazed at what surely had to be peak-90s creativity.
Then look at 1991.
I am just thankful I’m old enough to have learned the lyrics the first time the songs were on the radio.
Also, I miss Lucy, Lithium is good, but it’s not Lucy.
Finally:
Bought this album the day it hit shelves, haven’t gone a month since without listening to at least a portion of it. And “No Rain” was in the bottom 3 songs on the album IMO.

I’m sorry to hear that. I understand why it might be hard to listen to them, then.

Jar of Flies is immense. Layne was incredible, one of the few artists I wish I could’ve seen live.

Because we need some Manchester rock in here as well. Put on your Reni Hat and jam.

I’ve never checked out their new stuff. I’m too much of a Staley fanboy.
That said, I saw them with DuVall, and I have to give credit- He’s a great singer.

If he was in any other band, he would be fine and nobody would say shit. Definetly not as good as Staley though. the music writing is just as good has it always has been, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here is much angrier than it is sad though. Makes me happy that they can keep putting out good music.

Guilty as charged. I’ve come to accept him, it’s just that the music with Layne speaks to me more, even though I can’t relate to the lyrics for the most part, since I’ve thankfully never had an addiction problem.

Yeah, thank god I’ve never done drugs. The depression feels always make me feel better though, weirdly enough.

I’ve dealt with depression. Music doesn’t help it. In some cases, like Staind (yes, I’m a fan of them.), it actually makes it worse.
